Boy is Kindergarten teaching us a lot about our son! He has loved school so far. Every day last week he got off the bus and said his day was awesome! After a few days, we found out that one of his friends had a girlfriend in the class. Jonah wasn't too happy about this because he said this little boy was usually playing with his girlfriend, and not with him. I guess he figured if you can't beat them, join them! He came home the next day saying that he had a girlfriend now too...it just so happened to be a little girl that he went to preschool with (and her dad is also a police officer!). Another day went by, and we found out that he and his best friend were both "sharing" the girlfriend...I was proud he was sharing so well....perhaps that virtue could have been executed in a better fashion though!

This weekend, in talking to his best friend's mom, I found out that Jonah had in fact, kissed her! He even owned up to it, but I got no details out of him....

Well, it's a new week, and I guess a new woman is in the mix. Yesterday, he mentioned another little girl in his class (who lives in our neighborhood, also with a father who used to be a police officer). I didn't think anything of it, until today he was sitting next to her on the bus on the way home. He said she was his new girlfriend. His first girlfriend was going to just be with his best friend. Oh the drama!

As we played outside this afternoon, he said something happened I wouldn't be happy about. I was a little concerned about what he was going to say. It turns out that he actually popped the question! He said he was going to marry his new girlfriend and he actually asked her to do just that! In his words, he said, "I mean, seriously dude, I want you to marry me. I mean, you are so cute!" Not quite the best proposal I've ever heard, but what can you do? Apparently she said yes regardless. I am thinking they should have a short engagement, since he tends to move on week to week. ;)

Jonah's First Day of Kindergarten!

We finally made it....Jonah started Kindergarten today and did great! The morning started much earlier than we are used to as he has to catch the bus at 7:02. It was pouring down rain and really dreary, which made it seem even earlier than it was. Regardless, the weather did not put a damper on his mood and excitement!

I did ok! I had a few tears on the walk back home from the bus stop...but his excitement made things infinitely easier on me as he left. Poor Reagan wasn't too happy though. She fussed when he left, and all morning kept saying, "Where's my Jonah?" and "Go get that bus!"

Here's my man ready to head out the door!

Hugs for Reagan

Rainy walk to the bus stop

There he goes!

We drove up to school to see him get off the bus....he really didn't even care we were there. He was too excited to go inside!

Reagan helped me make cookies for Jonah to have when he got home....which he didn't even want. Go figure....

Anyway, he got off the bus this afternoon so excited about his day. He couldn't stop talking about all the fun he had, which made this momma so happy and relieved! I know he was exhausted though....he was in bed at 7:11 tonight and passed right out!

Kindergarten Orientation

We went to check out Jonah's school and classroom before the year officially started....he was super excited!

The art room!

His school mascot is the Glen Allen Cubs

He looks so little...it's hard to believe he is old enough to go!

Last hurrah of summer

We wanted to go to the beach for a day before school started....but were preempted by the cool weather. So, we headed to Belle Isle instead and had a blast climbing on the rocks. The kids loved it!

Jonah the Psalmist

The past few days have been rather breezy around here. The wind has made for some beautiful cool weather....and has apparently inspired Jonah. Yesterday, while we were in D.C. he told me he made up his own bible verse. Here it is....

The wind blows

And the people who trust God

Are like trees that do not get blown over.

But the bad guys are like balloons

That get blown away with the wind.

Sounds similar to Psalm 1 to me!!

Psalm 1:1-6 (New Living Translation)

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the LORD,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

4 But not the wicked!
They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.
5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment.
Sinners will have no place among the godly.
6 For the LORD watches over the path of the godly,
but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

It hit me the other day that this is the last week of summer! I have wanted to take the kids to the National Zoo since the spring, and we never got around to it....yesterday, we finally went! It was an amazingly beautiful day....upper 70's in late August!! We had an awesome day!

Reagan loved the baby gorilla....then we saw a real one!

Checking out some rabbits

Having fun!

Monument time!

I am actually in a picture!

She finally lost it at the Vietnam Memorial. Can she look any more uncomfy?

We finished the day with dinner on the rooftop of our friend, Carlos', apartment. Awesome!

Unfortunately, we got a $100 parking ticket thanks to what we thought was poor signage in D.C. Still, it wasn't enough to ruin our great day!
